İngilizce'de Subjunctive Mood (Dilek Kipi) bir isim cümleciğinin fiilinin , bazı ana fiillerden ve ifadelerden sonra, yalın halde kullanılması ile ifade edilir. Örneği inceleyelim;
I suggest that he study harder. (Onun daha çok ders çalışmasını öneririm)
Bu cümlede (that) he study bölümü bir isim cümleciğidir. suggest ise asıl cümlenin ana fiilidir. Suggest fiilinin özelliğinden dolayı ardından gelen İsim cümleciğinin fiili yalın halde (çekimlenmemiş, -ing,-s,-ed gibi ekler almamış) olmak zorundadır.
